HORNET CULTURE - The "V" Formation

When geese set out on their migratory journey, their ability to reach their destination is dependent on the power of each individual goose and process they employ along the way. The formation they choose is one of the main keys to their success. As each bird flaps it’s wings, it provides uplift for the bird following. This uplift allows the entire team to fly much farther and faster than if one bird was flying alone. Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it immediately feels the drag and resistance of flying alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately ahead. When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another goose leads. All the while, the geese in formation honk from behind to encourage

those up front to keep up their speed. If a goose gets sick or wounded, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help protect it until it is able to fly again.

When we share a common direction, focus on process and sense of community, we can get to where we are going quicker and easier because we are traveling on the strength of one another.

When we stay in formation with those who are ahead of where we want to go, and are willing to accept their uplift, we can get to where we are going quicker and easier because we are traveling on the strength of one another.

When we are willing and able to share in the responsibility of leading the team, we can get to where we are going quicker and easier because we are traveling on the strength of one another.

When we are prepared physically and mentally to lead the team at the time that it is our turn, we can get to where we are going quicker and easier because we are traveling on the strength of one another.

When our “honking” from behind is encouraging and supportive, we can get to where we are going quicker and easier because we are traveling on the strength of one another.

When we stand by each other in times of adversity and in times of prosperity, we can get to where we are going quicker and easier because we are traveling on the strength of one another.
